Helping Hands 2016-17
In 2016, The Helping Hands Team first came together. We had a goal in mind to help the children in Blank Children's Hospital that needed something to occupy them while they're staying there. The Helping Hands Team started putting together an organization to do just that!

Over the 2016-2017 school year, Helping Hands gathered many 6th and 7th Grade students to volunteer and help us get to where we are now. They were sorted into different volunteer groups to help us create different items for the children. These groups included the Pillowcase Patrollers, Blanket Makers, Card Creators and Sign Making! We are so thankful to all of our Volunteers for helping us!

During the year, we placed many boxes in different areas around our school for students and parents to bring in donation items for the children. (Donation list is listed in the 'Donations' tab) Very often we had to retrieve the boxes and sort all of the donations in them because they were becoming so full! That is how we reached all of the 1,000+ donations for the children of Blank Children's Hospital!
We Are Excited to Continue For More Years To Come! |

2017-18 School PLAN Challenge
Starting in early April and lasting about a month long, students at Timberline School in Waukee, IA were asked to bring in donations from the Wish List for their PLAN. Throughout the four weeks, Student Ambassadors collected all of the donations from the PLANs. Every week, the PLAN with the most donations collected for the week would receive a cookie party. At the end of the four week challenge, the winning PLAN would receive Hurts Donuts and the Second Place PLAN would receive cookies.
Every week the Ambassadors collected donations from all of the PLANs. In the first week, Mr. Blumberg's PLAN collected eight items. The second collection week, Mr. Blumberg's PLAN came in first place again with 62 donations! The third week, Mr. Blumberg's PLAN came in first again with just about 30 donations brought in! The fourth and final collection week was totally awesome! Mr. Blumberg's PLAN brought in over 120 items!
2017-2018 Donation Delivery
This year, Helping Hands donated 11 boxes packed FULL of toys, games, books and many other fun things for the children at Blank Children's Hospital. As we walked in with all of the toys and fun things for the children, all of the staff that received the donations were so ecstatic and overwhelmed with joy. They knew that the children of Blank would love to have all of the fun things to do during they're stay. The most generous donation that was donated was three boxes full of over 300 books given to us by an outside donor. We are very happy and excited for all of the children to read and enjoy all of the awesome books given to the hospital.

As this year went on, we learned that every book that is donated will go to a child. When the child leaves the hospital or is in the hospital, they are able to choose a book of their preference and they can keep it as long as they want to. We as a Helping Hands Team took that on as a challenge. We wanted every book that we donated to the hospital to be special for the child that receives it. We also wanted the child that receives the book to know it came from us. What we did was amazing, our team came together for two hours and longer to make over 300 labels to place on each one of the books that was donated and given to the hospital so we can leave a special mark on the hospital and on the child that receives the book.
|
After bringing in all of the donations to Blank, our team received bracelets from the Hospital, as you can see on the right. We have recieved bracelets every time that we have donated to Blank and each one means something. These bracelets may not look like very much but they mean a lot to our team. These bracelets mean that we did good, we might have the chance to change someone's life with the donations given to the hospital. We are so happy to have the opportunity to donate to Blank Children's Hospital every year that we continue Helping Hands and we are excited to continue to donate every year.

2018-2019 Year
This year, we switched it up a bit. Instead of collecting donations for Blank Children's Hospital, we took a new path to collect monetary donations to give to Blank Children's Hospital. We sold popsockets for mobile devices with the Waukee logo printed on the backside. Many Timberline students came together to purchase popsockets and raise money for the children at the hospital. Not only did we sell at Timberline, but we also had our popsockets located at Westwood Embroidery in Waukee, and sold at South Middle School for a short period of time. Many Waukee students and families donated and bought popsockets to raise money for the children.
